Our History
BETA's (Business Education Technology Academy) chapter 513 started in 2008 when our principal Mrs. Gutierrez suggested that we start TSA. There were a couple of very qualified sponsors that started the club. They were Mrs. Roge and Mr. Alvarado. At the time BETA was a middle school as well as a high school and by the end of the year the two split apart and STPA (South Texas Preparatory Academy), our middle school was born.
After the split one of our first sponsors, Mr. Alvarado decided he needed a break and Mrs. Roge was the sponsor many years after that.
Now in the 2013-2014 Season we have two new sponsors, Mr. Garcia and Ms. Cardenas, that are helping our chapter succeed in every way possible. This year our sponsors and the chapter have worked really hard in order to fundraise money that will allow us to get new uniforms and equipment for our members so they aren't at a disadvantage.
The officers have had the amazing opportunity to attend state leadership where they learned valuable skills on how to lead the chapter and
how to become better leaders in their own perspective teams. Additionally we were able to take
60 of our members to the regional conference held at UTPA (University of Texas at Pan American) where they learned valuable skills from excellent guest speakers.
We are now on our 6th year of having TSA in our school and it is getting better every year. Overall, all of us as a chapter are working really hard to do our best in our competitions, because we want to keep having our standard of excellence and because we live by the Creed and Motto that TSA has engraved in us. We are hoping to do great in our competitions as part of our quests to become better people and better competitors in this age of technology.
Creed
I believe that Technology Education holds an important place in my life in the technical world. I believe there is a need for the development of good attitudes concerning work, tools, materials, experimentation, and processes of industry.Guided by my teachers, artisans from industry, and my own initiative, I will strive to do my best
in making my school, community, state, and nation better places in which to live.I will accept the responsibilities that are mine. I will accept the theories that are supported by proper evidence. I will explore on my own for safer, more effective methods of working and living.I will strive to develop a cooperative attitude and will exercise tact and respect for other individuals. Through the work of my hands and mind, I will express my ideas to the best of my ability.I will make it my goal to do better each day the task before me, and to be steadfast in my belief in my God, and my fellow Americans.
