Florida's History (1900-1950)
During the early 1900s Orlando was Florida’s biggest inland city, and became a popular resort. The Spanish-American and World War I represented a time of great stress amongst the American people, and Orlando became a popular destination for retreats and resorts.
During World War II, army personnel were stationed at the Pine Castle. Some of them remained after the war to raise families and become part of the Orlando community. This introduced variety and diversity to the Orlando community.
